Derby Meeting

So instead of practice this week on Monday, because of the classic skating thing, we are going to be holding a big meeting and answering questions that the girls on the team have. Questions about eerything that has to do with the team. So im excited for that because I really dont know much that goes on besides practices. Basically though the team members should come, practice, and learn how to play the game by the rules. The board members are who figure out how t make things run smoothly so we dont have to. So for us to be somewhat in the dark about things, I think thats normal. But either way, we will get to ask questions and get answers. Im going to take notes so I dont forget the answers in case i need them for later. But I wont be asking any questions. That will save me from being singled out. So ill juss listen and call it good. Meeting starts at 7 on Tuesday. More updates soon!

HVDD Fundraising Yardsale rescheduled!

So it snowed last night and this morning was raining foreverr, so we changed the date from today to next Saturday, which is the 7th. So we will be collecting items again this entire week until Friday. Next Saturdays weather is supposed to be sunny and in the 60's, so lets hope it doesnt change between now and then!

We dont have practice Monday because they are re-carpeting Classic, so thats in the works, possibly Tuesday. A;so news on the warehouse, they measured it by eye and they think it will work! However they didnt have a measuring tape to know for sure so the official measuring will happen in the next few days or so, and then we'll know if it will work or not. If it is big enough then all they have to do is sign the papers and we're in! Cant wait to start practicing 4 nights a week!!

Skating In my Lifee!

So last night I went to classic to get some practice in and I was very happy when I realized that there was hardly anyone there! it was awesome. Usually when we go Thursdays theres TONS of people there and millions of little little kids on scooters always in the way and its hard not to run into them because theres tons of other people all around you, giving you no room to really get out of the way. But not last night! It was way fun, we were sprinting a lot which is good cuz I always get way tired sprinting so is good practice. I went with my husband and my friend Korbin. Some of th Derby Darlins were there too, Amy, Sylvia and Trudy. Carl was supposed to be there but he had to cancel so I didnt get to try on the rebels! but I will at this next practice. I cant wait to get my right size so I can buy some. After using the nice wheels last practice and then going back to my crappy wheels for last night I was sad. My wheels are seriously like the worst things evar. I couldnt do anything or go fast at all without working like crazy! And for some reason my wheels arent lighting up on my right side skate anymore. Not sure why. So I have to go in and take the wheel apart and see whats up in there.

The yardsale is tomorrow in springville if the weather holds up. Its snowing right now so we'll see. Im juss going to be putting together the finishing touches on the posters tonight and do all the pricing too. Ill be ready for tomorrow! Not sure what im gonna wear yet, but ill figure something out. Im excited, I hope things go well and a lot of stuff sells! Wish us luck!!!      

My Image on SkateBoard Griptape? Yes Please! & Derby Update!

So I was contacted yesterday by a sponsored skateboarder asking if I would like my image to be on his sponsors companies new line of grip tape for their boards. I got more details and agreed. There is also a contest, after they get a certain number of people to put on the griptapes they are going to start selling them and whatever girl gets the most images sold gets a complete skateboard fully gripped with their image. Awesome! And the winners image will be griptaped on some professionals boards for the Xgames and other things like that. So if i won my image would be on some pree high profile skateboarders boards. Im ok with that. I have already picked the picture Im going to send in, and now im waiting for the high quality image to be sent to my email since i didnt have it and it will be sent! Ill keep you all updated on the progress of that project.

Onto other news, I am finding out that you cannot put 40 or more girls together in the same area and expect them ALL to get along. If you cant put your differences aside and work as a TEAM member then maybe you should re-think your decision to join a TEAM sport. Until you can play like a team member you will always be the weakest link. I am not singling anyone out, I am making a statement. A very factual statement.

If you are offended by anything i've said, Im not sorry. Im done being sorry for offending people. Dont read it if you dont like it. Dont do it if you dont want it to be seen. I am a very blunt person, I say what I think and how I feel, and im not afraid to let anyone know this. I may be too much for you to handle. But thats how I am and thats how I like it. Its not your place to judge me, so dont, because I dont judge you.

Onto lighter news, I got my Derby name and number (Gift37) made into a decal and put on the back of my helmet! It looks so awesome, and now eeryone knows who I am! I want to do more designs still like up the right side of my helmet maybe stars or something like that, not sure yet. I want to get a cricut expression machine so I can make my own, then I can experiment. I've been pricing them online and think I found a really good deal on one. So after I get new skates ill see if I can acquire me one of those bad boys! Next I need to get a shirt with my derby name and number on it. Im not sure if we are supposed to be getting shirts no our own, or if we are doing team shirts soon so I havent done anything about it. I wont worry about it until they tell me otherwise.

And lastly the fundraising yardsale is coming up this saturday! Tomorrow im going to get the little tags to price tag all my stuff to sell, and 2 poster boards with some awesome markers so make some signs for the yardsale. Im excited about this because all the derby girls are pitching in with items for the sale and the more we sell, the more money for our team. So I have a busy day tomorrow preparing! Anyways im off for now! Byee!

Derby Update!

So practice last night was awesome! I got there and Carl announced that he had wheels for us to try out. I was soo excited, bahaha. So I went over there and he put some pink wheels on my skates, I have no idea what the brand was, but they are the ones that come on the rebel invaders that im going to buy soon, so I wanted to try them out. I have never had indoor wheels before or even skated on them, so it was a crazy experience! Slippery at first cuz of the sealing agent they put on all wheels. I tried to wipe it all off but you can only wipe so much! After a little bit I got used to them and the sealing agent started wearing off and then they were juss gripping the floor, it was awesome. They are wayy faster than my wheels! My wheels are also outdoor wheels so they arent as good as indoor wheels anyways. But these were amazing. I kept them on the entire practice and I love them! I did trip over them a few times like hitting against my wheels on the opposite side, but my trucks are plastic and for some reason my axle slides in towards the middle on both of my skates. So no matter how many times I tap it back to straight it will slide back in! Its freakin annoying so all my wheels are on the inside of my skates and hardly any on the outside. Its unbalanced and retarded. So this Thursday if I go skating which I think i will, Carl will be there and he said he should have some size 8 rebel invaders for me to try on, then we can figure out what size I need to order. Im going to get some awesome shoelaces too. And prolly some Pink toe stops. Anyways, moving on practice was insane! BreakHer pushed us so hard and It was awesome. I was flying by on my new wheels which was weird cuz Im not used to being able to go that fast! But im still having issues cornering. I bet you its my skates like the actual boot and axle. We'll see if I can do better with the rebels on.

We practiced our pace lines, and in and out drills. Then we did hip checks, played a game that helped us practice getting up quickly and running on toe stops (In which I made this epic freakin wipe out when trying to get down next to one of the girls. Seriously it was insane and awesome), and then we played shark attack! Not all in that exact order. Then lastly we scrimmaged and I jammed the first time, and pivoted the second and third times. Those new wheels were awesome the entire time and i cant wait to get my own skates! I will miss the back brake though. Haha, my skates now have a back brake but no other skates do, so I have been trying not to use it actually. I learned how to T-stop and Plow stop last practice and i've been using them both. I t-stopped with the new wheels last night and it was surprisingly easy compared to trying to do it with outdoor wheels. I didnt try to plow stop, but I will next time. Its insane how big of a difference having a good pair of skates and wheels can make.

Anyways moving on, we have the opportunity to rent out the food 4 less building in Spanish Fork and use it to set up our derby track and practice. They are going to measure it today or tomorrow and let us know if the track will fit. CROSS YOUR FINGERS that it will!!! When that happens we get to sign insurance waivers and then start practicing FULL CONTACT and 4 nights a week! Im so excited, so lets hope this goes through and works! So all in all, Derby rules!    

Derby Practice!

So Practice last night was brutal! We were skating foreverr, and doing alot of squatting which BURNS so much. Haha. Also we practiced plow stopping, which my wheels suck at cuz they are outdoor wheels so they catch on eerything and dont ever stop. But I get the concept of how to do it. And then T stops which I always practice now anyways, which are also hard on outdoor wheels. But im getting the hang of them too. Then we practiced Whips, and they are so fun. I need to get better at them though, I cant whip people very far yet! But it was my first time whipping anyone so ill get better. Then we practiced hip checks, and im alright at those when im not hitting my wheels against their wheels and making us both fall! Then we did scrimmages and it was alright, I blocked a few people and practiced skating with my legs wide so they couldn't get past. We all need to work on sticking together as a team and staying in a pack, instead of spreading all out.  But we are working on it. Going to classic this week sometime also to skate some more. The more the better!

More Derby!

So I went to Classic Thursday with a few friends and my husband and we were skating around dodging little kids on scooters all night, haha. There were so many little children there, and people falling allover the floor. It was crazy, I had to step over one girls head who fell right in front of me, but it was good practice! Anyways we saw Carl there and he fixed my skates so they dont suck as much anymore! Which is awesome! Im going to be buying new ones from him soon, indoor skates and wheels cuz I have outdoor ones.

Moving on we had our first promotional event last night at Flirts in lehi! It was actually really fun, we had a blast! Spanked a bunch of people, sold merchandise, held a silent auction and got donations. We also took alot of pictures with fans and overall had a good time. It was alot of fun! Hair nation and Rune played live too and they were doing some good covers! It was awesome, im excited to do more events in the future.

Now that thats over its time to start promoting for the Fundraiser yardsale at the end of the month! I already have some stuff for the yardsale, and more will be coming in the next few days! So if anyone has anything they want to contribute let one of the Derby Darlins know! We appreciate anything and eerything!

Derby Update!

So Im doing better crossing over and skating in general. I have been pricing new indoor Skates and Carl (Hes our Skate go to guy) suggested some Rebel Invaders! Im going to get them with hotpink wheels, the boot is black. It wont be for about 2 weeks or so to get them fitted and ordered and such, but im excited!

Next thing on teh list, is we had alot of fall practice at our last mondays practice night and  I have these epic bruises on my knees! Bahaha its awesome! They dont really hurt a ton, they juss look really brutal!~ I expect to get more battle wounds as time goes on.

Moving on, the Happy Valley Derby Darlins have their first promotional event this Saturday, April 16th at Flirts in Lehi! Starts at 8pm, 21+ We are going to be promoting, handing out sponsor packets, taking pix with fans, selling merchandise and hanging out all night! So come support your local roller derby League! Happy Valley Derby Darlins are the only roller derby league in Utah County! Go Us!!!

Next Item on th agenda, The Darlins are holding another fundraiser, this time it will be a yardsale. I dont have all the details yet, but I do know it will be at the end of April, and we are supposed to be getting things together for the sale. So I got a ton of stuff that I have laying around, plus I asked my inlaws to see what they could find, since they always come across things from eeryone. It should end up being really good.

Also the warehouse we picked out first measured too small, so we found another warehouse, this one in spanish fork and from th last I heard we are waiting on contact back from the owner. So we'll see! hopefully soon we'll have a place to practice that isnt classic skating! It will be our own place, and we can have practices for as long as we want, and not so late hours prolly. Since right now we practice from 9 to 11 at night. So maybe we can make the hours a little earlier and maybe practice for longer.

And last but not least, I got a smaller mouthguard and its like heaven in my mouth! Although I would really like a Guardian with fangs, i might go ahead and get one, they are really cool. And my Helmet came in the mail! It's hotpink and Triple 8 Brand! I love it, and it fits way better than my black one. I juss returned the black one so its all good. Once I get my skates, ill be set! Time to go find a few more legging colors now, since i only have Pink, Orange, Blue, and purple. I want yellow and green too! Oh and black and white I also need.

Derby!

So, I have been stretching and working out since I started Derby. And im already more flexible than I started out as. Not like a TON more flexible, but enough to notice, which I think is good for it being less than a week!!

A few of the girls went to classic last night to practice and I went and met them there. I learned how to crossover, run on my toe stops and fall on one knee without totally biffing it. Haha! We also loosened my trucks because I felt like I was going to tip over doing crossovers on the corners and now I can actually feel the floor being gripped by my wheels. Which at first was really really weird, im used to my wheels slipping on the floor for th4most part when I go fast so it was a big change. I also tightened my laces which helped too. I can feel my foot inside moving around when I turn corners and I dont think that is a good thing really. Plus my wheels are outdoor wheels so I need to get some indoor skates anyways. I want pink and black ones, but we'll see!

My Helmet came in the mail today! Hooray! It's triple 8 brand and its hot pink! I ordered it a a few days ago and in teh meantime have been using a black triple 8 helmet, but this pink one is way better. Now I juss need to go get my Derby name and number (Gift 37) decal-ed onto it and prolly some stars and/or a cool design across it. But I havent quite decided exactly what juss yet. Thats a work in progress.

I cant wait for mondays practice! I think its going to be our last day adding people to the team, im not 100 percent sure, it could be next week.. But I think I saw that this monday was the cutoff, so we'll see about that too. Anyways I juss wanted to get online and update on my derby stuff and now im out! <3<3

Roller Derby!

So I joined the Happy Valley Derby Darlins Last night! And practice was sooo much fun! I absolutely love eerything about it! I woke up this morning with minimal muscle pain, surprisingly haha. But im so excited for next week. I know that this is something I love to do, and I can go far. Which is my plan. Raggs already had me play as a jammer during our first practice, I think Im already getting the hang of eerything. :)(:
